The Android OS

The Android operating system is an open platform developed by Google and is currently in many phones including the Samsung Galaxy S. It is based on the principle of openness and personalisation, meaning that no two people’s phones will look the same. It also means that you will be able to tailor the phone to exactly how you want it, giving you a much greater feeling of control.

The Samsung Galaxy S is currently on version 2.1 Éclair, which is the most current stable build, and has Samsung’s Touch Wiz 3.0 interface over the top of standard Android. Touch Wiz 3.0(TW3) allows you to manage your screens with ease. TW3 allows for a fast and fluid experience moving between screens and applications, watching HD videos and listening to music is also made easy too.

Android allows users to better utilise the 7 home screens with the use of widgets and shortcuts. Say you are on the bus and just want to quickly check what people are saying on twitter. All you have to do is go to the home screen with the twitter widget and start flicking through what’s happening, the same can be done with a Facebook widget.

The Android Market place is a great place to get almost any app your heart desires with a growing number of apps totalling a staggering +80,000. You can find a bunch of games to take advantage of the 1GHz processor in the Samsung Galaxy S.

Some apps come as standard for example the layar augmented reality browser and swipe which allows you to type with a lot more speed than the regular keyboard.

All in all the Android OS is a great one and one that is constantly being updated so that you can always be sure to have the newest features.
